Is Entrepreneurship Right for You? The Hustle Mindset You Need to Succeed

Good day! Today, I want to talk about one of the most important factors to consider when deciding whether to become an entrepreneur or start a small business.

Back in the ’90s, before reinventing himself as an actor on Law and Order, Ice-T was a hardcore rapper. One of his iconic songs, New Jack Hustler, always stood out to me. While the song may not be politically correct today, it offers a raw take on the mindset required for success.

Now, why am I bringing up Ice-T and his rap song? Because the essence of hustling lies at the heart of entrepreneurship.

What It Really Means to Hustle in Business

I remember clients often asking my father what type of business they should start for their children. His response was simple yet powerful: “Forget the business—first, ask yourself, is the kid a hustler?”

At first, I didn’t fully grasp his point. But over time, I realized the deep truth behind those words. He didn’t mean hustling in the gangster rap sense—he meant the willingness to chase every lead, handle every task, and never give up.

Hustling Means Wearing Every Hat

If you’re thinking about entrepreneurship, you need to understand that you’ll be doing everything at the start:

  • Punching out the work
  • Managing administrative tasks
  • Chasing payments from clients

Until you have the resources to hire staff, every aspect of the business will fall on your shoulders. And even when you bring in employees, the hustle doesn’t stop—it evolves. You shift to managing your team, building workflows, and securing clients to keep operations running smoothly.

The Reality of Small Business Ownership

Becoming a small business owner is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Watching your staff grow, seeing your business scale, and achieving new milestones provides immense satisfaction.

However, if you’re not ready to hustle consistently for the long haul, entrepreneurship may not be the best path for you. Running a small business means pushing forward every day, regardless of the challenges.

Are You Ready to Hustle?

The only way to win in business or as an entrepreneur is to hustle relentlessly. Whether you’re in digital marketing, e-commerce, mobile app development, or financial planning, the key to success is continuous effort and adaptability.

So, before jumping into business ownership, ask yourself: Am I ready to hustle like Ice-T in New Jack Hustler?

If the answer is yes, the rewards of entrepreneurship await you.

I’m TC, and that’s my two cents.
